JAMAICA SDA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

The Jamaica Seventh-day Adventist Elementary School began in September, 2000 with grades K-2, at the request of parents from Busy Bee Learning Center who wanted their children to continue in Jamaica SDA Church's school system.  This expansion was spearheaded by Dr. Ena Richards, who serves as Principal of the school and DIrector of the Busy Bee Learning Center.  Under her leadership, grades 3, 4 and 5 have been added.

The school is certified by the New York State Department of Education and it has also been accepted into the sisterhood of schools in the Northeastern Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.  Our 105 students are taught academics, as well as Music (Choral and Instrumental), Art, Spanish, French and Computer.  The fourth grade students take the NY State examinations in Language Arts, Math and Science.

The school choir has been invited to sing at various local Seventh-day Adventist churches, as well as at Camp Victory Lake, Northeastern Conference's campsite in Hyde Park, New York.

HOME & SCHOOL ASSOCIATION

The Home & School Association (H&S)  is an auxiliary department of the Jamaica Seventh-day Adventist Church that serves as a liaison for the home, school and the church.  It facilitates efforts to provide our students with a Seventh-day Adventist Christian education.

Since its formation in November, 1996, H&S has planned school activities, sponsored fundraising projects and provided a forum for parents to expresss their concerns about the children's educational program and progress.

Over the years, with the cooperation and support of parents, teachers, church members and friends, H&S has been able to augment the program with new computer equipment, furniture, a TV monitor surveillance system and a portable public address system.  Our current goal is to raise funds for the purchase of a new building to adequately accommodate our rapidly growing student body.
